Developing emotional intelligence starts with understanding yourself. It can be easy to get swept up in the whirlwind of life and forget to take a step back and check in with how we are feeling and what is going on inside of us. Checking in with yourself is an important habit to develop, because it will help you gain clarity about your emotional state and work towards managing your emotions.

This practice requires that you give yourself permission to pause, reflect and listen to what is going on inside of you. This can be done through journaling, meditating, or even having a conversation with yourself.
